Nervous About Your First Highlights? Here's What to Expect image

It's completely normal to feel nervous about getting highlights for the first time. Here at Blue Vanity Salon, we've had plenty of first-time clients walk through our doors, some even wavering a bit, but they always leave thrilled with their new look. Our experienced team is here to hold your hand through the process and ensure you feel comfortable every step of the way. You'll learn exactly what happens during your appointment, how to prepare, and what you can do to maintain stunning highlights long after you leave the salon.

Before You Arrive: Prepping for Your Highlights

To ensure you get the best results from your highlighting session, it’s essential to come in prepared. We suggest washing your hair 24-48 hours before your appointment to allow your natural oils to protect your scalp during coloring. When you arrive, communicate openly with your stylist about your hair history, your desired look, and any concerns you have. This will help us meet your expectations perfectly.

What to Expect During Your Highlighting Session

When you arrive for your appointment, you’ll start with a detailed consultation. You’ll talk about your hair goals and the highlights you envision, and we’ll make sure you're comfortable. After that, we’ll section your hair and apply foils or balayage techniques based on your preferences. Most clients are pleasantly surprised at how relaxing the process is. One of our regulars shared,

"I was nervous about the time it would take, but it flew by!"
After application, we usually take time to let the color develop and then rinse it out, followed by a refreshing blowout and style. Overall, you can expect this session to take about 2 to 3 hours, depending on the complexity of your highlights.

Aftercare: Keeping Your Highlights Looking Fresh

After your highlights, it’s normal to feel a bit different, like your hair possesses a new glow! We recommend waiting at least 72 hours before washing your hair again to allow the color to set properly. When you do wash it, use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner designed for color-treated hair. Regular deep conditioning treatments also go a long way in maintaining your vibrant colors. Most of our clients find that their highlights can last anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks with proper care, depending on their hair type and habits.

Tips to Build Confidence for Your First Highlights

Feeling uncertain is a common experience for many first-time clients, but remember that communication is key! If there’s anything on your mind, we want you to share it with us. Also, know that many clients become regulars after just one visit, a testament to the experience and results they get. As one of our first-time clients observed,

"I left feeling like a whole new person!"
So, take the plunge! We can't wait to accompany you on your highlighting adventure at Blue Vanity Salon in Scottsdale.
